(I've noticed that, the gayer the series, the more people seem to like it.) Not necessarily more people overall, just more crazed fangirls this forum is a great example. We have, what? 30-something members, and no boys posting. Interesting...

It's totally intentional. They took tips from Russell T. Davies. But, honestly? If I had a TV show starring two pretty boys, I'd make them as gay as I could get away with as well. It's like a sure thing for a sizeable fandom to spring up.

It IS totally intentional. Only thing is there's a legend to stick to They don't have to of course but I reckon they'd get a lot of criticism if they don't. Fan forums for shows like these (British drama tv) are actually very often found to have very few male members, and the few that they do have are mostly gay. They'll be a fan of Bradley James or Colin Morgan turn up soon...

I wonder if they've realised the amount of sub-text (or, at least, I think there's sub-text. It's not just me, is it?) and have tried to add gratuitous het? Not that I don't appreciate a bit of M/F, but I'll admit I'm a Arthur/Merlin kind of girl at the moment.

I've been a guilty slasher since the age of eleven, and it's corrupted me beyond repair.

I dunno about y'all, but I enjoy slashing. It's funny, and it can provide great fodder for fanfics (ooh, points for alliteration!)

I enjoy it, and seriously have no idea why. Maybe it's an intrinsic lack of being able to relate to a majority of female characters in TV.

Well, I'm a straight female, so het just seems boring to me. Slash is interesting because it's so different from "normal" relationships I'm used to!
Dunno if that's just me, or if anyone else feels that way...

Also guys, please try keep on topic (Lancelot), I know it's hard If you want to discuss Merlin/Arthur or slash in general, keep it to the Merlin/Arthur thread in the general Merlin discussion section hereOoh, I feel powerful today, got made a prefect at school today too

Yeah, you're right... need to stay on topic....
So Lancelot. Yeah. When do y'all think he'll come back to Camelot? Will he?

To be honest I haven't read that far into the legend. I think he does return; Sir Lancelot definately was written about... Also, Merlin and Arthur were not apparently the same age either, it's just the BBC's modern take on it thing. Much better though If it were to stick to the legends, then Gaius would be more Merlin's age if Arthur is still a prince.

Yeah, the series is kinda making their own legend up. One really good resource for the original legend is "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White.
The novel is like 500 pages long, but it's very well-written. I read it for English when I was in highschool, and I loved it. It was written in the 50's, so it's not all that hard to read. Very good.
