My favourite episode so far. Just fantastic. Will discuss it more when I'm sober.

Okay, just watched it. It was a brilliat episode, I think maybe my favourite so far but Edwins's death was a bit... let's just say left a bit to be desired.. an anti-climax. Not much Arthur (and therefore no Merlin/Arthur) either but it was Gaius' episode so that doesn't matter... I liked the idea of Jeffrey, Uther and Gaius all once being young and friends through battle. It's always good to be on the King's side

Just finished watching. I was hoping that Edwin would turn into a recurring villian, as an evil counterpart for Merlin. Oh, well.
I love how we're getting more character development for Gaius. He's one of my favorite characters, and he doesn't seem to suffer from the Stupids.
Also, I noticed in the credits that Geoffrey the Librarian is supposed to be Geoffery of Monmouth. What the f**k?
Otherwise, excellent episode, and definitely one of the best ones so far.

I swear the same actor who played Edwin also played a guy [can't remember name!] from the most recent film of Oliver Twist [shown on the Beeb] and he also had a prosthetic/makeup scar thing done to his face in that too...

Is it just me, or was that cut very oddly? It jarred a little.
And then, of course, there was the complete lack of angst about Edwin. There are times when angst is needed. >_<
But other than that I liked it.

I thought it was cut weirdly too, it wasn't that smooth and a bit jumpy but the plot lines were great.

I liked the episode, it was a different perspective than the previous ones.
Didn't like Edgar's death scene, though. That thing with the axe was just silly :/

Yeah totally agree with that ^^
When me and my brother watched the repeat on Sunday; turns out he agreed and we watched his death scene again in silence and just burst out laughing or cringing I'm not sure which!

Hmmm - I've only watched the once so it might improve on a second viewing but I was a bit underwhelmed by this one.
Good points - I liked Edwin, and liked how they are starting to explore the fact that SOMEONE is going to have to teach Merlin sorcery. The ethical dilemmas of using magic to treat a disease of natural cause and the use of magic to save the life of someone who might not want it (Uther) were genuinely interesting. The hints back to the older generations past actions are being done very well in my opinion.
Bad points - using magic to put dust back in a bottle is a bit of a show-off thing to do surely! I realise this was Gaius' episode but the lack of Morganna, Gwen and Arthur really did jar with me. Hopefully we'll get extra amonts next week to make up for it! The axe thing was naff as has been pointed out before

Was I the only one who got a bunch of creepy vibes from Gwen and Gaius? Specifically when Gaius is leaving Camelot?

Was I the only one who got a bunch of creepy vibes from Gwen and Gaius? Specifically when Gaius is leaving Camelot? Absolutely not. I totally saw that too. But a lot of that comes from the nature of their relationship. She's like, what, Gaius' son-type-person's almost-girlfriend?That's freaky as it is. It's a little odd to have them interact in the first place, and the script didn't really help at all

I don't mind them interacting, but that scene seemed too romantic to me, and I was all "GAH DO NOT WANT".
*coughs*
